This course covers all aspects of Free Hand Machine Embroidery

A Creative Machine Embroidery course, where you will gain confidence and skills in Free Motion Machine Embroidery. We will begin by learning the basic techniques which will allow you to expand your skills and creativity, resulting in you being able to produce embroidered pictures and more using a variety of methods of Free Motion Embroidery.

No previous experience is required, as this course is suitable for Beginners, but I do ask that you have a basic understanding as to how your sewing machine works.

During the course, you will learn by demonstration of practical techniques and encouraged to work through your own practical projects at your own pace and with guidance. There will also be opportunities to introduce Mixed Media in the form of Hand Embroidery or Paint etc to embellish and enhance your pieces.

Please bring along your sewing machine, ensuring it has the capability to drop the ‘Feed Dogs’ or cover them, a basic sewing kit of essentials (pins, scissors, tape measure etc), a piece of Medium/Heavy weight Calico or Cotton Canvas measuring approx. 30 x 30 cm/12″ x 12″ , Black All-Purpose good quality Sewing Thread and an 8″ Embroidery Hoop. You will also need a Darning or Quilting Foot for your Machine (my preference is the clear plastic open toe kind) and please ensure you have a Fresh All-Purpose Needle – Some of these items will be available to borrow – a notebook and pen are also useful.

The only additional costs include the costs of fabrics, patterns, threads etc, to complete chosen projects and hopefully you will soon enjoy exploring the joy of Free Motion Embroidery whilst developing confidence in your creative embroidery journey.

Learn the art of free motion embroidery. This workshop will show you everything you need to know and give you plenty of opportunity to explore free motion embroidery. The talented Michelle Corbin will be on hand to share her knowledge and skill to guide you through the workshop. The workshop is suitable for beginners. However, If you've already attended a free motion class previously and are wanting to progress your skills you're also very welcome.  

What will be covered

During the workshop you will learn how to set up a sewing machine for free motion embroidery. You will practice the techniques working on different samples of stitch. These include line and applique styles. After all the practice you will create your own collage or picture to take home. 

Through clear instruction and demonstration you will learn everything you need to know to get started. By the end of the session you will have the confidence to play with your own ideas.  

All sewing machines and materials are provided. If you are wanting to take the opportunity to set up your own sewing machine at home. You can either bring your machine along with you or make sure you know the make and model so we can guide you.
